There are alot of questions when it comes to importing. Here is why we are different.
Auto Edge uses container shipping. This means that the cars/parts/kits come directly to Edmonton. This also eliminates middle men touching the vehicles; like rail yard and shipping employees(we have all heard the roro stories of things going missing). Auto Edge ships via container due to the security, safe keeping, and time savings for getting the car across. Offering some of the fastest import times for vehicles getting to Edmonton. You get to see tracking and ETAs know exactly where and when your car will be along its way to your doorstep.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU WON YOUR BID AT AUCTION?
-Most importers request deposits prior to bidding, we like to know the vehicle is won first. In our case, once a vehicle is successfully won at auction/dealer/etc. then we require the deposit.
WHAT DEPOSIT IS REQUIRED TO START THE PROCESS?
-Zero, we start the process of searching and bidding at no charge, Once a car is found, bid and won. We will typically look at a minimum deposit of $1000-$4000 depending on vehicle purchase price.
WHAT COST WILL I ENCOUNTER ONCE IT HITS CANADA? CUSTOMS? DUTY?GST?
-Once the vehicles are landed they need to be customs cleared. This is all done by An Auto Edge. We make it carefree. These prices will all be shown on your invoice, You just follow the tracking information until you are grabbing the keys from the lot, or a location easily arranged(registries, etc.)
WHERE DO I PICK UP MY CAR?
-The vehicles are de-vanned in Edmonton or Calgary depending on container destination(typically Edmonton). They will then be stored on Auto Edges lot until pick up arrangments are made.
ONCE I HAVE THE KEYS, WHAT DO I NEED TO REGISTER?
-You will need valid insurance, Drivers Licence, and the TC form provided by the imported(Auto Edge), and completed OPI.
In the event you need the vehicle moved, Auto Edge has dealer plates to help accommodate our Autoholics. We can also get the OPI arranged for the customer. This is recommended as we have trusted Journeymen Mechanics at a trusted dealership do the inspection.
HOW LONG IS THE SHIPPING?
-We used to offer two types of shipping, After realizing that "time is money" we only do expedited shipping, gets the cars here quicker than any other local importer.
-There is a small wait as the vehicle makes its way to the vanning port from auction house. typically a week.
-Once the vehicle is at port, it will accompany a few others into a container. and take about 19 days once the container is ON THE VESSEL. ( This is caps, due to shipping peak season, sometimes you are at the mercy of the vessel).
-Typical average times are 30 to 50days.
-These time limits do not include the loading of the vehicle, which is dependant on the shipping companies vessel/voyage schedule.
-Once in Canada, no time is wasted, The cars are very quickly moved into customs xray, and onto rail. Average time 9 days.
-Quickest I have had one here is 26 days.
Conclusion and Tip notes.
-Auto Edge offers a "worry free" expierence, we differ in some major ways
a)container shipping means that NO ONE touches the cars except me and the loading crew. No rail yard gents, No boat roro guys, No ways for items to go missing, which is very common in RORO shipping.
-We are not just a broker, we take responsibility for the cars we bring in and give you information on why we would, or would not purchase a certain car, If a car comes in and ends up being what we deem "trash", we will get another one brought over. Other importers simply act as a broker and leave all liability on the buyer. There is rarely a case a car ends up being unregisterable, but in that event, they become parts cars.
-We offer a service to get your desired car here without any extra brokering charges, fees or shops calling unneeded replaced parts. We ironed out all your worries in the process. Took out all the crappy parts of importing(customs, brokering, OPI, etc.) and have shaved down the wait time.
-Do not be a victim of importer desertion, choose an importer that
-Name is on the form 1
-Does not have liability contracts
-Has parts, motor, and YAJ purchasing access.
-Does not RORO ship.
-Offers OPI at the exact cost of the inspection.
